GAIL EVANS

ABOUT

Gail Evans has been an active contributor to the Darwin performing arts scene for over 20 years, working as an actor, writer, director, tutor, musician and comedic performer. 

She is Darwin’s most sought after director, with recent credits including And I’m the Queen of Sheba by Kate Wyvill (2019), Cosi by Louis Nowra (2019), the Turquoise Elephant by Stephen Carleton (KeDT 2018), the Sound of Waiting by Mary Anne Butler (KeDT 2017), A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen (2017), Broken by Mary Anne Butler (KeDT 2016 and 2015) and Dog Dog by Sarah Hope (2016). 

In 2019 she was accepted into the LaMama International Directors’ Symposium in Umbria, Italy, with 17 other participants from across the globe. 

She has directed a number of script developments, including the Sound of Waiting by Mary Anne Butler (2017) and Broken by Mary Anne Butler (2014). 

She co-devised and wrote recent sell-out works The Final Front Ear (2020), The Fah-King Ridiculous (2018) and Hillbilly Horror (2016/2018) for her physical theatre comedy company the Royal National Theatre of Jingili. 

She has written three large scale productions for high school students, and created work for Tracks Dance, Corrugated Iron Youth Arts and Darwin Theatre Company as well as KeDT.

She is currently employed by Sydney Theatre Company as a teaching artist in Darwin schools,training teachers in drama techniques to help improve students literacy, oracy and comprehension skills.
